Answer first
Answer engines want the shortest correct answer to a question. Pages that bury the answer under an introduction, a story and three ads give them nothing to lift. Pages that put a direct answer right under a heading that matches the question are easy to use.
The pattern is simple: the question as a heading, a one or two sentence answer, then the detail, examples and caveats for people who keep reading.
Structure that helps
Real HTML lists for steps, tables for comparisons, FAQ sections with FAQPage markup when the questions are genuine, and definitions written as complete sentences that make sense out of context. A sentence such as "It does this" is useless when quoted alone. "A canonical URL is the address you want indexed" works anywhere.
Measuring AEO
Track which queries show your page in a snippet or People Also Ask box in Search Console's performance report, and test key questions in AI assistants. A rise in impressions without a matching rise in clicks often means you are answering the query in the results page itself.
Questions worth answering
Look at the People Also Ask boxes for your main keywords, at the questions customers ask in support and sales calls, and at what people type into your site search. Those are the questions answer engines get. Answer the ones you can answer better than anyone else, with real numbers and examples from your own product, and leave generic questions to generic sites.
Example
A pricing page adds the heading "Is there a free plan?" with the answer "Yes. The free plan includes one project and unlimited users." Google starts showing it in People Also Ask.
Questions people ask
- Does AEO reduce clicks?
- For simple facts, sometimes. For questions that lead to a decision, being the quoted source builds trust and brings better qualified visitors.
