Writing a result people click

Your title and description are an advert for the page. Lead with what the page gives the searcher, use the words they typed, and make the description finish the thought the title starts.

Google cuts titles by width, roughly 600 pixels on desktop, which is about 55 to 60 characters, and descriptions at about 155 to 160 characters. This preview estimates the cut so you can keep the important words early.

Questions

Will Google show exactly this?

Not always. Google may rewrite titles and descriptions to match a search better. A clear title and description make rewrites less likely.

Why is my title cut short?

Wide letters like W and M take more room than i and l. Keep the key words in the first 50 characters.

Does the URL matter in results?

Google shows the domain and a breadcrumb of the path. Short, readable URLs look more trustworthy.

Can I check a live page instead?

Yes. The meta tag checker reads the title and description from any public URL.
