What FAQ structured data does
FAQPage markup tells search engines and AI assistants which text on a page is a question and which is its answer. It is written in JSON-LD, a script tag with type application/ld+json that does not change how the page looks.
Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results mainly for well-known government and health sites, so most pages will not get the expandable result. The markup still describes your content clearly for every system that reads structured data.
Rules to follow
Every question and answer in the markup must be visible on the page. Do not use FAQ markup for advertising or for content written by users, such as forum threads; that is QAPage.
Questions
Where do I put the JSON-LD?
Anywhere in the page's HTML, usually in the head. One script per page is enough.
Will I get FAQ rich results in Google?
Probably not unless your site is an authoritative government or health site; Google limited them in 2023. The markup is still valid and useful to other readers of structured data.
How do I test the markup?
Paste the page URL into Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator.
Can answers contain links?
Yes. Answers may include basic HTML such as links, lists and bold text.
