Limits that matter for a launch
Search results show about 60 characters of a title and about 155 of a description; those are guidelines based on display width, not hard limits. Platforms set hard limits: a standard X post is 280 characters, a LinkedIn post up to 3,000, an App Store app name and subtitle 30 each, and a Google Play title 30 with an 80 character short description.
Characters, not words
Limits count characters, including spaces and punctuation. Emoji can count as two characters on some platforms, so leave a little room when you use them.
Questions
Do spaces count as characters?
Yes. Every platform listed counts spaces and punctuation.
How many characters can a meta description have?
There is no hard limit, but Google shows roughly 155 to 160 characters on desktop before cutting it. Put the key point first.
Why does X say my post is too long when it is under 280?
X counts links as a fixed length and some characters, like many emoji and CJK characters, as two. Leave some room.
Is my text stored?
No. Counting happens in your browser.
