Launch week

A launch week is a week-long launch window: on weekly launch platforms the products launching that week compete together, and for makers it is the week they spread launches across several platforms.

Weekly launch platforms

Some platforms rank launches by the week instead of the day. DevHunt, Peerlist Launchpad and TinyLaunch run weekly batches, and on Aback Launch every product scheduled into an ISO week goes live on Friday at 00:00 UTC and collects upvotes until the week closes at the end of Sunday. A week gives founders in every time zone a fair window and lets a launch keep collecting votes over the weekend.

A launch week as a plan

Makers also use the phrase for the week they schedule their launches into: directories submitted beforehand, a feedback community on one day, the main ranked launch on another, social posts and an email to the list in between. One launch per day keeps each one manageable.

What to measure

At the end of the week, compare channels by what their visitors did: sign-ups, activations and conversations, using one tagged link per channel. The week's ranking matters less than which platforms brought users who stayed, because those are the ones to use again.

Launch weeks and time zones

A daily race favors makers whose audience is awake when the day starts. A weekly window spreads that out: a founder in Bangalore and one in San Francisco both get a full weekend of votes. It also lowers the stakes of a single bad hour, such as a server problem or a competing launch.

Example

A founder submits to three directories two weeks early, posts a Show HN on Monday, launches on Product Hunt on Tuesday and goes live in the Aback Launch weekly race on Friday.

Questions people ask

When does an Aback Launch week start?
Launches go live on Friday at 00:00 UTC and the race runs until the ISO week closes at the end of Sunday.
Is a weekly launch better than a daily one?
Neither is better in general. A daily race concentrates attention; a weekly one gives more time and is fairer across time zones. Many makers use both.
