What generative engine optimization is
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is making your pages easy for AI assistants to fetch, understand and cite. The basics overlap with SEO, but some matter more: AI crawlers must be allowed in robots.txt, the content must be in the server HTML (many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript), and facts should be stated plainly in short, quotable passages.
This checker tests AI crawler access (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended), llms.txt, structured data, the heading outline, question-style headings, lists and tables, dates and authorship, and whether the page serves Markdown to agents that ask for it.
Questions
Is GEO different from SEO?
It builds on SEO. Pages that rank well and state facts clearly are the ones AI assistants cite most.
Should I block AI crawlers?
Blocking training crawlers is a choice. Blocking search crawlers like OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot keeps you out of their answers.
Does llms.txt make AI cite me?
No guarantee. It helps tools that read it find your key pages; clear content does the rest.
Can I see if ChatGPT cites me?
Ask it questions your page answers, and check referral traffic from chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai in your analytics.
