The Instagram caption limit
An Instagram caption can be up to 2,200 characters, with up to 30 hashtags. In the feed only the first line or two show before "more", roughly 125 characters.
How to write a Instagram caption
Use the opening line as the hook, because that is all most people see. Links in captions are not clickable, which is why posts point to the link in the bio.
Questions
What is the Instagram caption character limit?
2,200 characters. Links in captions are not clickable.
How many hashtags can an Instagram caption have?
Up to 30 per post. Most accounts use a handful of relevant ones rather than the maximum.
Are links clickable in Instagram captions?
No. Captions show links as plain text, so posts point to the link in the bio or a story link sticker.
Do spaces and emoji count?
Spaces and punctuation count as one character each. This checker counts each visible character once, so an emoji counts as one.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. The counting happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
