Which favicon files you need

Browsers look for /favicon.ico at the root, so keep one there. Add a 32 by 32 PNG for tabs, a 180 by 180 apple-touch-icon for iPhone home screens, and 192 and 512 PNGs for Android and web app manifests. Google search shows your favicon next to results, from a square icon at least 48 pixels.

Questions

Is my logo uploaded?

No. The image is drawn and resized in your browser.

What size should the source be?

Square and at least 512 pixels for a sharp result.

Why does Google not show my favicon?

It must be crawlable, square, at least 48 pixels, and linked from your home page. It can take weeks to update.

Can I use an SVG favicon?

Modern browsers support SVG favicons; keep favicon.ico as a fallback.
