What makes a good startup name
Short, easy to say, easy to spell after hearing it once, and not already taken in your space. It should leave room to grow: a name tied to one feature becomes awkward when you add more.
Check the .com and other domains, social handles and trademarks before falling in love. A name you cannot own online will cost you later.
Questions
Do I need the .com?
Not always. .io, .ai, .app and .co are common for startups, and a get or try prefix can work, but the .com avoids confusion.
How do I check trademarks?
Search your country's trademark office (USPTO in the US, EUIPO in the EU) in the classes you will sell in.
Are the names generated by AI?
No. They are built from your words with common naming patterns, in your browser.
How many names should I shortlist?
Five to ten, then say each out loud to a few people and see which they remember the next day.
